PoseCap with Previs Pro
PoseCap is a fantastic way to capture a pose and apply it to your Previs Pro characters.
In this article, we'll show you step-by-step how to use PoseCap for our built-in characters and how to apply such a pose to a custom character.
PoseCap works with the outward facing camera on an iPhone or an iPad. It does not work with the "selfie" camera or any camera on a laptop or desktop.
In the 2D or 3D Canvas, tap a character so the Character Menu appears. Next, tap Pose
The Pose menu appears. Here you have a variety of standard poses you can select. For PoseCap, tap the link in the top right.
PoseCap instructions appear. You can point your camera at a person in real time, use a 5-second timer, or point your camera at an image in a magazine, a photo, or even online.
Press the "X" icon to dismiss the instructions.
In this example, we searched for an image of "man jumping" and pointed our camera at this image.
Apple does not yet support hands and head movements but this example works. Press the button in the right middle of your device.
Your character now appears in your Previs Pro project with your new custom pose.
PoseCap with Custom Characters
PoseCap does not work automatically with custom or imported characters. However, there is a simple solution if the imported character has a valid rig.
Note that PoseCap does not appear in the menu with a custom character
However, if we tap the Custom link in the Pose Menu, the pose we created in the example above is included as a new Pose.
From here, we can apply this Pose to our custom character mimicing the use of PoseCap for our standard Previs Pro character.
Step-by-step instructions for adding a PoseCap pose to a custom character
- Select or add a standard Previs Pro character to any shot in your project.
- Use PoseCap to create a custom pose or even multiple custom poses.
- Select your custom character and tap Custom within the Pose Menu. The new pose will be included as a Pose option.
- (Optional) You can delete the added standard Character from your project. The custom pose will remain as an option.
Mixamo, Ready Player Me, and Reallusion are platforms that our users have found import custom characters with valid rigs. Other platforms may work but have not been tested. If you find platforms that work (or don't work), please let us know so we can add them to our list.
