What is the difference between a lantern and a spotlight?

In Previs Pro, you have the option of using a lantern or a spotlight to illuminate your set.

When you start a new scene, there is already a lantern to the right of your camera.  It looks like a sun.  The lantern sends rays of light in every direction.  You can move it around the set just like a person or object.

In 2D mode, if you tap the lantern, you'll see the options to 'Edit', 'Duplicate', and 'Delete'.

If you tap 'Edit', you can change the lantern into a spotlight.  You can also adjust the intensity and color.

Notice, a spotlight has controlled rays.  You can move a spotlight around, but then you must  adjust the direction of its light.  You can also adjust the width of the rays.
